Eco-Friendly: refers to the attempt to utilize materials and buildings that consider how they will react to the environment and even how we will dispose of them (can they be reused, recycled, repurposed, etc.).
Biodegradable - Compostable: refers to material constructions built from or with a coating/lamination of various components that react to air and sunlight, accelerating how a package degrades when no longer in use. Needs air and sunlight to function.
Recyclable packaging is defined as packaging that can be grouped with other "like" packaging and either ground back up and converted into the same or similar material again, or ground back up and utilized in the production of new products. A organized plan is required to recycle either ALL of the same structures (such as film) or SIMILAR structures. This is a significant difference.
Sustainable: an often ignored yet highly effective strategy to help the environment. Sustainable solutions are those that allow us to better our business by minimizing the amount of energy consumed to make the package, ship it, store it, or all of the above. A common example is replacing a stiff plastic container for windshield washer fluid or cleaning supplies with a thinner, more flexible box that holds the same amount while using 75% less plastic and storing and shipping flat. If we just look around, we can find sustainable ideas and answers.
